Hello world!

“Welcome to WordPress.com. This is your first post. Edit or delete it and start blogging!”

Ah. A good ol’ blog. I normally prefer anonymity (both online and offline). However, as my friends probably have realized, I’ve been going through a transformation recently. The way I look and act have gradually changed over the last year, and I’m certainly pleased with where they’re headed. So, here I am. Exposing myself to the world. This is me! Derek! Hi!

I’m the type of person that can take an idea and run with it, spending hours making it more complex, more diverse, more useful. So, from learning what blogging is all about from some of the greats, I realized that I have exactly what is needed. The only thing I lacked was the will to become known, and share my loony ideas. But, here you go. We’ll see how well this turns out.

I couldn’t, however, figure out what to put in my first post. Even with all these ideas floating around my head, none were adequate for a brand new blog. What should I say? What should I do? Share my deepest inner..ness, or blandly state what is to come? Pinpoint what my blog will be about (still haven’t figured that one out), or keep it blown wide open to allow everything to be blog-able? As I pondered this, I realized what I should do. Sit down and write. Sometimes the best writing can come from a stream of consciousness piece. We’ll see how this pans out when I go back and read what gibberish I’ve written.

I suppose I should at least explain the title of the blog. Somewhere (and I don’t remember where, so I’m sorry I can’t give credit) I read that a blog is an extension of you. So I began to wonder. Is it an arm? How about a leg?

Wait..you’re telling me it’s a metaphorical extension? Well, darn. That just ruins it all.

Yup, that’s my attempt at humor. Learn to love it, it comes out to shine every so often.

So, as a conclusion to this all-important first blog, I address you. Yes, you. Don’t look over your shoulder, I really am talking to just you. If you enjoy reading the consequence of a member of the younger generation who got ahold of a keyboard and the internet, do come back sometime. If you hate the younger generation, people who can type, or how I write…come back anyway. Everyone needs a little bit of hating in order to balance the equation out.
